Kickass Torrent has been one of the big ones… But it seems to be over?

If you are one of the 50 million unique visitors per month that use Kickass Torrent, then you need to find a new place.

Earlier this week (Wednesday 20 of July), the site Kickass was shut down by, US Department of Justice.

30-year-old Artem Vaulin from Poland is the founder of the site, and it have been one of the biggest torrent site since year 2008

The same time Kickass Torrent website was closed down, Artem Vaulin was arrested by the United States Department of justice.

Charged with following counts of criminal copyright infringement
1. Conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement
2. Conspiracy to commit money laundering

Here is a part of the statement from US Attorney Zachary Fardon on US Department of Justice

Our Cybercrimes Unit at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago will continue to work with our law enforcement partners around the globe to identify, investigate and prosecute those who attempt to illegally profit from the innovation of others.

So is this the start of torrent sites dead… No is not.

I don’t say that Kickass Torrent will not come up again, but for sure it will come up similar sites, and some of them will properly even look like the original.

But it will not be run by Artem, the server was placed in US so they properly have all they need to put Mr. Vaulin away for some time.

But I’m sure that piracy will not stop because of this. People that want to download copyright material will find other places for this.

Other site for example PirateBay will proberly get a big increased on the traffic, and US have already try to close them down a couple of time. And if US succeed to close down other torrent sites, there will always be some new site popping up.

I think, people that have copyright material, must find other way to distribute it, to get around this problem.

I still think that you should pay something, for the thing you are using, as I have write about in an earlier article, when it comes to pay for plugin. Read here…
