Thousands file sharers will soon get fines for films or series they have shared.
And the file sharers will get this sent to them by normal post, or what we on web normally called it, Snail-post.
Since the beginning of this year, many Swedish file sharers has been monitored.
And this autumn it will start to happen things..
This is a new thing to get to the file sharers.
It is said that fines will be on the 2000 Swedish kroner (around $230) for each film or series.
But this is a number that will probably being increased during the autumn.
Behind this initiative, are Gothia Law that in the current situation has already signed agreements with four right holders: Scanbox, Noble Entertainment, Atlantic and Crystalis Entertainment.
Gothia Law have monitored more than 150 films and TV series that’s been illegally shared on different torren-ttrackers since the beginning of the year.
The company plans to make the first mailing in the near future, but do not gives any specific date or number of mailings.
It is estimated there will be between 500 to 1,000 people in the first round.
And each will get fines on 2 000 Swedish crones (around $ 230).
So, will this work?
Most likely… Sweden has a well-functioning system when it comes to billing.
If you do not pay on the due date, it becomes matter of the law, and that will add more fees.
And if you don’t pay then, the money will be taken from the owner’s account if.
So far, it’s only the file sharers who will be hunted. But it would not surprise anyone if this is just the first step.
And there is nothing that says that fines will start to be distributed to those that download copyrighted material too.
